Iran Press/America: The United Nations has established a banking channel so cash assistance would make its way into Iran, UN Resident Coordinator and Representative of Secretary-General in Iran, Ugochi Daniels told reporters in Tehran on Monday.
This is the result of efforts that have been made at the UN headquarters, she added, Iran Press reported.
The UN has always reiterated support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and declared that the US sanctions are not lawful, Ugochi Daniels stressed.
She added that part of the aid supplies that have been arrived in Iran was purchased from outside Iran.
She emphasized that there are efforts being made at the highest levels of the UN not to allow that humanitarian aid is blocked from being sent to Iran.
Her remarks come at a time when the Iranian officials have criticized the US sanctions for blocking all banking channels that allow international donation for flood assistance to be transferred to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, a humanitarian organization.
Sanctions have impeded humanitarian aids issuance in a way that Head of Iran Red Crescent Society Ali Asghar Peyvandi earlier said that the society had SWIFT accounts before sanctions through which they could attract global aids.
Washington’s refusal to relieve its bans comes as countrywide flooding, unleashed by heavy downpours on Iran since March 19, has killed scores of people and has pushed relief and rescue organizations to the utmost. 104/202
