British Foreign Secretary said Iran's threat to resume higher enrichment of uranium is an "unwelcome step".

Iran Press/Europe: Jeremy Hunt urged Iran to adhere to a 2015 nuclear deal with the West, which the US unilaterally withdrew from last year, to the dismay of its European allies.

Speaking at a news conference Wednesday in London alongside US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Hunt said "I urge Iran not to take further escalatory steps," Euro News reported.

But he said Britain was not ready to give up on the deal. Hunt said "for as long as Iran keeps its commitments then so too will the United Kingdom."

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States will wait to see if Iran follows through on threats to limit its compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal before deciding how to react.

Speaking in London with British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Pompeo claimed Iran's threat to resume higher enrichment of uranium in 60 days appeared aspirational and was vague on whether it would follow through.

On Wednesday, Iran revealed countermeasures to US’ withdrawal from the nuclear deal, giving the five remaining parties to Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) 60 days before reducing parts of its commitments to the agreement.

According to the decision of the Supreme National Security Council, Iran will no longer commit to the restrictions put on storage of enriched uranium and heavy water under the agreement.

The statement puts the blame for the possible failure of the JCPOA and any consequences thereof, squarely at the feet of the United States and the remaining parties to the nuclear deal who failed to carry out their obligations.

The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces has declared full support for Tehran's new policy in relation to JCPOA, warning enemies about any action against Iran. 101/205
