The US President, Donald Trump congratulated ‘the great state of Kansas’ for the win by the Kansas City Chiefs, who are from Missouri, congratulating the wrong state for Super Bowl win.

Iran PresscommentaryDonald Trump was among the first to laud the Kansas City Chiefs in the wake of their 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, taking to Twitter to congratulate the newly crowned NFL champions and the ‘Great State of Kansas’; The only problem: The Chiefs are, and have always been, based in Kansas City, Missouri.

According to the British newspaper 'The Guardian', the US president was quick to remedy his mistake, deleting the tweet and re-posting it moments later with the correct state – but not before his error was noticed by a wide audience and the new tweet did not stop the torrent of sarcastic comments with users mocking the president.

Former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill was among those who took note, screenshotting Trump’s tweet and adding: “It’s Missouri, you stone-cold idiot.”

Although there are parts of Kansas City metropolitan area that do cross the state line into Kansas, it is Missouri’s largest city and widely associated with the Show-Me State, not least because it’s where the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium is located.

Some users suggested that the president is so good at making mistakes and blunders that he should try out comedy for himself and become a writer for Saturday Night Live, while others spoke of his previous mistakes, saying the 45th president can’t get anything right.

While about half of the Twitter crowd made fun of Trump as much as possible, the other half defended Trump saying it’s easy to mix up Kansas City, in the state of Missouri with the one that is in the state of Kansas.

Other social media users said that the football team belongs to both states and that Trump’s mistake cannot be compared with blunders made by his predecessor Democrat Barack Obama, who said in 2008 that he visited 57 US states, despite the fact that there are only 50 states in the US.
