Iran Press/America: At least five people died and several others were wounded as US President Donald Trump's supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, marking one of the darkest days in contemporary American history.
The Jan. 6 committee says it will present evidence Thursday showing how then-President Donald Trump’s aggressive efforts to pressure Mike Pence to unconstitutionally block certification of the 2020 election led to the deadly insurrection and even put the then-vice president’s life at risk.
“We’re going to show that that pressure campaign directly contributed to the attack on the Capitol, and it put the vice president’s life in danger,” a committee aide told reporters during a June 15 conference call in advance of the hearing.
Specifically, the commission presented information gathered from testimony showing what went on behind the scenes in the lead-up to the Capitol breach, making the case that, through his efforts to pressure Pence, Trump had aided in escalating violence at the Capitol and endangering the then-vice president’s life.
