Iran Press/Iran news: Answering Iran Press correspondent's question about trigger mechanism, Mahmoud Vaezi told reporters on the sidelines of a weekly government meeting on Wednesday: "What the Europeans have said is based on an article in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which has been approved by both sides and even we ourselves have used it."
Mahmoud Vaezi went on to say that Iran's fifth incremental step is a fundamental step, and they suggested to launch a joint commission but it is not meaning that they will use the trigger mechanism or the JCPOA will fail.
"When the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal, we asked for a joint commission. Trump's messages are not new. He either withdrew from all foreign or international agreements that Obama has signed or if it is bilateral, he has sent a message to sign a new agreement."
The official believed that "there will be a meeting and it will neither go to the Security Council nor will it lead to the trigger mechanism."
"Rather, these are propaganda that has done so from a weak standpoint," he said.
Vaezi went on to say that Iran has always had an argument with the remaining signatories of the JCPOA that the United States was out of compliance and not fulfilling its obligations, and not allowing the remaining countries to fulfill their obligations under Iran nuclear deal.
He further explained that the Islamic Republic has taken steps to reduce its commitments to the JCPOA from last May while it had warned the countries to fulfill their obligations.
The chief of staff of the presidential office referred to taking the final step in reducing nuclear obligations by Iran, adding that the country has halted its remaining operational restrictions under the 2015 nuclear agreement; including enrichment capacity, percentage of enrichment, amount of enriched material, and research and development.
"We announced that we would do so under Agency supervision, stressing that the incremental steps don't mean leaving the JCPOA, like their approach that they maintained the JCPOA but failed to fulfill their obligations," he added.
On Jan 14, the UK, France, and Germany have officially launched the dispute mechanism in the Iran nuclear agreement 2015, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) but highlighted that they won't impose US President Donald Trump's 'maximum pressure' sanctions on Tehran.
