Quetta (IP) - Following the train hijack incident in Pakistan, the country's security forces announced that they have safely rescued 104 passengers from the terrorists.

Why it matters:

The attack has created a wave of concern in the region because it marks a significant escalation in the Balochistan insurgency, raising security concerns in an area already plagued by separatist violence.

The big picture:

The rescued included 58 men, 31 women, and 15 children. On the other hand, 16 terrorists have been killed so far during this operation that began on Tuesday when militants of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked a train in Balochistan province.

What they're saying:

According to military sources, the terrorists are in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan through satellite phones.

Key points:

  • Pakistan has once again accused terrorists of having connections in Afghanistan.
  • So far, 104 passengers have been safely rescued, while 16 terrorists have been killed.
  • The presence of suicide bombers near the passengers slowed down the operation.
  • The hijacked train was carrying around 450 passengers, including a large number of children and women.
  • The clearance operation is underway, somehow keeping the life of the hostages a top priority. The operation is carried out at a slow pace.
