The third stage of operation "Resolve to Win" has started in Diyala province in eastern Iraq, overseen by the country's prime minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi, who officially commenced the operation on Monday.

Iran Press/ Middle East: The aim of the operation is to cleanse Diyala province of all ISIS terrorists and other militants, forcing them to flee the area, or to arrest them. 

The Headquarters of the Iraqi Armed Forces issued a statement on Monday, saying: "The extensive operation involves the Iraqi Army, Police and Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd ash-Sha?abi, and it aims to drive the terrorists out of Diyala province, chasing them away and cleansing the province of the last remnants of terrorist groups.

The operation will be overseen by the prime minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi, as well as the Iraqi defense and interior ministers, and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd ash-Sha?abi.

The first stage of the operation "Resolve to Win" started on 7 July 2019, with the objective of cleansing 30000 square kilometers of desert spread in three provinces of al-Anbar, Salaheddine, and Ninevah.

The first stage was completed successfully, and the second stage started on 15 July, with the participation of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) in areas north of Baghdad, and the provinces of Diyala, Salaheddine, and al-Anbar.
