Iran Press/Iran news: Mohsen Haji-Mirzaie, President Rouhani's pick for education minister, addressed MPs in the Majlis by saying: "We do not enter the future but we make the future, if we do not make the future others will make it for us."
He added: "The best, fastest and cheapest way to meet society's welfare and reaching our long-term goals is through education, and the education ministry. Spending on our education system, is really an investment in our future. Fortunately, the Islamic Revolution after four victorious decades, 40 years after its triumph, has now embarked on a second stage, by giving the younger generation an opportunity to show their talents. The Education ministry has significant plans at hand to develop the country, and shape our futures, we care for the people, and we shall make a bright future for our students and young people."

Mohsen Haji-Mirzaie added: "School books should be better presented, and the material we teach needs to be carefully considered and evaluated. Teaching methods, instruction methods used by teachers, must not scare or frighten students, or cause any anxiety for students. Equal opportunities is the right of all Iranian citizens -- the right of all Iranian children. We must develop and increase the number of our state school. The university entrance exam, "Konkur" (equivalent to A-levels in Britain) has become a nightmare for many students. "Konkur" must be reformed and changed. The final average score [for 12th graders] must play a more prominent and bigger role for entering university."
"I do whatever I can to remove the challenges and solve problems in our education system. I have devoted my life to education."
After Mohsen Haji-Mirzaie, President Rouhani's other ministerial pick, Ali Asghar Mounesan also defended himself before MPs and presented his future plans for the newly-established Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism to lawmakers in the Majlis.
Mounesan said the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism industry can be a driving engine for Iran's economy, and the Ministry plays a leading cultural role, preserving traditions and showcasing the arts.
Mounesan also talked about 'Halal tourism', saying tourism in Iran has grown by over 40 percent in 2018 (last year) and Iran has registered the third largest growth in tourist numbers in the world. Mounesan said Tourism is a major earner of foreign currency, and many jobs are related to the Tourism industry. Thus, he said, tourism can be the driving engine for the economy and can create lots of jobs, and it has already done so.
In further comments Ali Asghar Mounesan said: "Despite sanctions tourism industry in Iran has grown significantly and its impact on the economy has been significant. We have to register Iranian cities as 'global cities', improve the image of tourism in Iran, improve the 'packaging of tourism' and commercialise it further. Tourism has reduced the impact of [US ] sanctions."
