The National Security Service of Iraq announced the destruction of a terrorist network in Diyala province

Iran PressMiddle East: In 2017, after three years of fighting, Iraq declared victory over the terrorist outfit "ISIS", but the scattered elements and cores of this terrorist group are still active in some areas of the provinces of Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh, Salahuddin, Anbar, and Baghdad.

According to Iran Press, citing Al-Furat News, in a statement, the National Security Service of Iraq announced the destruction of a terrorist network consisting of 2 groups and 5 members who were being prosecuted based on court rulings in Diyala province (Eastern Iraq).

According to the National Security Service of Iraq, this terrorist network is affiliated with the ISIS terrorist outfit, and among its detainees, there is a person named as the commander of the ISIS-affiliated terrorist outfits in Baqubah and Al-Khalis.

The National Security Service of Iraq added: "The elements of these two terrorist outfits have admitted to being members of ISIS and carrying out criminal operations against Iraqi citizens and soldiers this year."

According to this statement, these two terrorist outfits have confessed to planting homemade bombs and detonating them in the areas of Al-Katun, Al-Khalis, Al-Moalmeen, and Tahrir neighborhood, targeting police patrols and setting off a bomb with the aim of blowing up the house of a Diyala judge and planning to assassinate some figures and officers of this province.

Referring to the proceedings of these people, this Iraqi security institution said in this statement: "Their words have been classified and arranged, and they have been handed over to the judicial system to take the necessary measures against them according to the law."

Iraqi security forces continue to search, clear, and pursue ISIS remnants throughout the country to ensure that ISIS and its fugitive elements do not re-emerge.
