Tehran(IP)- The mayor of Tehran headed to Brussels, the capital of Belgium, in order to participate in the general assembly of Metropolis (Association of Major Metropolises of the World).

Iran PressIran news: According to Iran press news agency, Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, left for Brussels, the capital of Belgium, this morning (Sunday, June 11, 2011) in order to participate in the Metropolis General Assembly.

Lotfollah Foruzandeh, Deputy Finance and Urban Economy of Tehran Municipality, and Mehdi Abbasi, Head of the Urban Planning and Architecture Commission of Tehran City Council, are also accompanying the mayor of the capital on this trip.

Metropolis is an international non-governmental organization that works with non-profit goals and without political affiliation.

The management and issues of the world's megacities are the focus of the attention of Metropolis. This association is also a part of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).

The aforementioned association was founded in 1984 by the initiative of the municipality of Paris and started working in Montreal (Canada) in 1985.

The main goal of Metropolis is to promote sustainable urban development in large cities in order to improve the quality of life of citizens by guiding the global network of metropolises and monitoring the development path of important metropolitan areas in the world.

This organization, which is an international non-governmental organization; is an organization between the important metropolises of the world, and its main field of activity is metropolitan management.

Since 1992, Tehran Municipality has become a member of the Association of Major Cities of the World, and the cities of Tehran, Mashhad, and Tabriz are members of this association.
