Iran Press/ Iran news: According to Iran press news agency, Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, left for Brussels, the capital of Belgium, this morning (Sunday, June 11, 2011) in order to participate in the Metropolis General Assembly.
Lotfollah Foruzandeh, Deputy Finance and Urban Economy of Tehran Municipality, and Mehdi Abbasi, Head of the Urban Planning and Architecture Commission of Tehran City Council, are also accompanying the mayor of the capital on this trip.
Metropolis is an international non-governmental organization that works with non-profit goals and without political affiliation.
The management and issues of the world's megacities are the focus of the attention of Metropolis. This association is also a part of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
The aforementioned association was founded in 1984 by the initiative of the municipality of Paris and started working in Montreal (Canada) in 1985.

Since 1992, Tehran Municipality has become a member of the Association of Major Cities of the World, and the cities of Tehran, Mashhad, and Tabriz are members of this association.
