Moscow (IP) - Iran’s ambassador to Russia said that both countries are making progress on their joint work to construct the Rasht-Astara railway section.

Iran PressEurope: Speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd International Altai Forum on Friday, Kazem Jalali stated that both countries are serious about the project, and that there are no significant issues along the proposed route.

The agreement was signed in May 2023 by Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev and Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash.

The 170km-long railway will link land sections of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), boosting economic efficiency along the trans-Caspian route.

Moscow and Tehran will jointly finance the design, construction, as well as supply of goods and services for the project, while Moscow, Tehran, and Baku will construct the Astara-Astara line.

The cost of construction is set at $1.6 billion.
