Tehran (IP) - The Director-General of Iran's House of Book and Literature says that almost all countries of the Persian civilization area took part in the 17th edition of the Fajr International Poetry Festival.

Iran PressIran News: Delivering a speech at the closing ceremony of the 17th edition of the Fajr International Poetry Festival on Friday, Ali Ramezani said that the international participants of the event were from India, Pakistan Tajikistan Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan as well as Lebanon, Syria, and the Azerbaijan Republic.  

Ramezani elaborated on the festival saying over 3,100 works were received by the secretariate of the festival from 885 publishers, which was indicative of a 20 percent increase compared to the last years. 

He noted that 15 poets from 11 publishers were nominated to receive the award out o whom 5 were women poets. 

As another point to mention, the cultural figure said that efforts were made in this edition of the festival to engage poets from almost all provinces of the country.

Still, as the other key speaker of the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance for Cultural Affairs Yaser Ahmadvand highlighted the position of poetry in the Islamic Revolution and reported President Raisi's effort to support the position. 

He put emphasis on the power of the words and recalled that the late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Ira Imam Khomeini enjoyed the power to encourage the Iranian nation's uprising against the oppressors. 

At the end of the ceremony attended by the Minister of Culture Mohammad-Mahdi Esmaili, the nominees were called to come and receive their awards. 

Fajr Poetry Festival is one of the most important literary events in Iran, which has been held every winter since 2005.

The 17th edition of the Fajr Poetry Festival was opened in Shiraz, southern Iran, on January 7, the closing ceremony of which is underway in Tehran.
