The Spanish Prime Minister addressing his government on Tuesday stated that the establishment of a Palestinian state is the only route to peace in West Asia.

Iran PressEurope: The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez spoke on Tuesday before a cabinet vote that approved the previously announced plan to recognize a Palestinian state. Norway’s recognition has also taken effect, while Ireland was due to follow suit later in the day.

Sanchez noted that Spain will recognize the Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, only recognizing changes that have been agreed upon by both parties.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement that “for more than 30 years, Norway has been one of the strongest advocates for a Palestinian state. Today, when Norway officially recognizes Palestine as a state, is a milestone in the relationship between Norway and Palestine.”

Over 35,900 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, the vast majority being women and children, and over 80,400 others injured since October.
