Iran Press/Iran News: Foreign participants of the International Silk Road conference in Hamedan, western Iran, visited the ancient hill of Hegmataneh on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
According to Iran Press, Hegmataneh hill is one of the largest ancient hills in Iran. The ancient city dates back to the Median Era, and in the eighth century BC was recognized as the Median capital called Ecbatana or Hegmataneh.
The area of the ancient hill of Hegmataneh is about 40 hectares and thanks to excavations which have been done, some parts of the city wall and some houses from the Median era have been brought to sight.
International Silk Road conference has been held in Hamedan with the representatives of 16 countries participating at the event. These countries have been located along the Silk Road.
