Iran Press/ Iran News: The burnt city is one of the ancient sites of Zabol in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeast of Iran, and according to archeological findings, it is one of the oldest civilizations in the world.
This ancient historical region used to be the connecting highway of the Indian subcontinent and Central Asia with the civilizations of the Persian Gulf. The burnt city also contains a large part of the ancient civilization of Iran and the cultural roots of the eastern plateau of Iran and is considered the center of urbanization in ancient times.
The Burnt City is a valuable area for archaeologists and history buffs due to its great historical potential and the large volume of artifacts discovered in this ancient city.
In addition to the burnt city environment, a large museum and exploration site have been built in the city, each corner of which contains a treasure. This museum is a place for storing discovered tools and equipment, especially artificial eyes from the ancient site of Burnt City.
The artificial eye of Burnt City was discovered in 2006 and belonged to the body of a woman buried in Burnt City. The woman is estimated to be between 28 - 32 years old, and an artificial eye with a leather frame has been found next to the remains of her bones. The tomb and the artificial eye discovered date back to 2,800 BC.
The name of the burnt city was mentioned about 150 years ago, and the reason for this naming was the discovery of burn marks in a rectangular building, approximately 500 meters wide. In this building, corridors, stairs, and thick adobe walls with a height of three meters with traces of burnt beams and human skeletons have been discovered.
Burnt City in 2014 as the first ancient hill in Iran has been registered on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List and is one of the most valuable tourist attractions in southeastern Iran.
