The Chairman of Iran's Experts Assembly, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, said on Sunday that serious guarantees need to be obtained from European signatories to the nuclear agreement, to ensure that they will remain within the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA).

Ayatollah Jannati made the remark in a statement in reaction to America's withdrawal from the JCPOA.

The Chairman of Iran's Assembly of Experts said:  "While the Islamic Republic of Iran has fully implemented all of its commitments, failure to take the necessary guarantees paved the way for the US exit from JCPOA."

The senior cleric added:  "JCPOA was a multilateral treaty; on one side was Iran and on the other side was the 5+1 Group.  Abiding by this deal rests upon compliance of all parties with the JCPOA, and the exit of each of the parties from the JCPOA would translate into a breach of the deal".

Ayatollah Jannati added:  "As most of the commitments of the other side had been shouldered by the violating party (the United State), with its withdrawal from the deal, it has created numerous   obstructions in the way of the contract.  The European parties to the deal do not have a good record of interaction with the Islamic Republic of Iran and have worked against the interests of Iran in the past."

The senior cleric added: "The US and the three European countries are playing different roles in their apparent differences in the current situation".
