Iran Press/ Asia: The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) denounced on Thursday the recent Israeli airstrike that targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming said.
In a statement on the organization's Telegram account, Zhang said, "The Shanghai Cooperation Organization condemns the April 1, 2024 airstrike against the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the city of Damascus, the Syrian Arab Republic, and offers condolences to the Government of Iran over the martyrdom of military advisors."
He added that attacks against diplomatic institutions of SCO member states abroad were categorically unacceptable, and rejected any destabilizing action in the region.
On Tuesday, Syrian Minister of Health Hassan Al-Ghobash announced that the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus caused the death of 4 Syrian martyrs and 13 were wounded.
This is in addition to the martyrdom of seven advisors from Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), including the commander of the Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria, General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.
On Monday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad headed a delegation and visited the Iranian embassy to check on the staff's safety following the Israeli attack.
From the embassy, he held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to offer his country's condolences, unwavering support, and commitment to mutual ties.
During the call, Amir-Abdollahian held the Israeli regime responsible for the consequences of its crimes and stressed that the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus was a breach of all international conventions.
