Iran Press/ Middle East: Abdul Khaliq al-Ajri said on Tuesday Yemeni forces have seized a shipment of narcotics in the country smuggled into Yemen from outside, with the help of the Saudi coalition.
The leaders of Saudi Arabia and the UAE are in contact with drug traffickers inside Yemen, and their armored vehicles are transporting the drugs to the country, al-Ajri said.
The Yemeni Interior Ministry spokesman also reported on Monday the arrest of about 52 al-Qaeda-affiliated elements and the seizure of over 29 tons of hashish drugs.
Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing Ansarullah.
The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
