Tehran(IP)- The petroglyph (statue) of a Sassanid soldier, discovered in England about seven years ago, returned to Iran.

Iran PressIran News: The Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts announced the return of the Sassanid petroglyph (Sassanid soldier statue) to Iran.

The announcement said that the Sassanid sculpture entered Iran this morning (Wednesday) with the follow-ups of the Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and the officials of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage received the statue at Imam Khomeini Airport.

The Ministry of Cultural Heritage announced the petroglyph display in the National Museum of Iran in the future, which will be announced later.

The statue, which belongs to the Sassanid era, entered the UAE in 1988 and left the UAE in 2006. Then it was banned in the UK in 2016.

The exact time of the petroglyph's departure from Iran is unknown. Still, considering the time of its arrival in the UAE in 1988, it is most likely that the sculpture was illegally taken out of Iran during the imposed war (Iran-Iraq war).

During the Raisi administration, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts returned 30 historical, cultural antiques to Iran.
