The Islamic Resistance group "Ashab al-Kahf" claimed responsibility for the attack on the US military convoy in Diwaniyah province near the "Al-Dawajan" bridge.
In another development, the Iraqi Joint Operations Headquarters announced two rockets hit near the Balad Air Base in northern Baghdad.
According to the statement, Balad Air Base is home to US F-16 fighter jets purchased from the United States. Some American technicians are also present at the base.
News media reported that the military section of the Balad base has been closed and US military advisers have been banned from going to the area.
The US forces were reportedly on high alert at the Victoria base near Baghdad airport, fearing similar attacks by Iraqi resistance groups.
Attacks on US military bases in Iraq have increased in recent months.
