Tehran (IP) - Watermelon is one of the most nutritious summer fruits that can be very useful for the body due to its abundant water.

Iran PressHealth: Nutritionists recommend that all people consume watermelon every day in summer and if possible.

The benefits of eating watermelon include:

Prevention of dehydration

About 92% of the volume of watermelon is water. Since drinking water and fluids or foods rich in fluids is very important in the summer, eating one to two watermelon servings a day can help prevent dehydration.

On the other hand, watermelon has a high volume of dietary fiber due to its abundant water.

Provide the body with micronutrients with minimal calories

Due to the high volume of watermelon in water, the caloric content of this nutritious fruit is really low. Approximately every 154 grams of watermelon (about 1 cup) provides only 46 kcal of energy to the body.

A glass of watermelon can provide 21% of the body's daily requirement of vitamin C, 18% of vitamin A, 5% potassium, 4% magnesium, and 3% of vitamins B1, B5, and B6.

Maintain heart health

Regular consumption of watermelon in summer can also help maintain a healthy cardiovascular system. One of the summer problems for middle-aged and older people is a heart attack caused by extreme heat.

Numerous studies have shown that high levels of watermelon lycopene can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke by lowering oxidative stress in the body.

Prevention of muscle pain and cramps

Exercise is one of the summer pastimes for many people. Many may experience muscle aches and cramps during summer exercise.

Research has shown that daily consumption of watermelon, especially after exercise, can help prevent muscle aches and pains.

Maintain healthy skin and hair

It is good to know that the vitamin C in watermelon helps to build collagen in the body and strengthens the hair's protein structure.

On the other hand, the vitamin A in watermelon also helps maintain healthy and supple skin and hair. Watermelon contains compounds called lycopene and beta-carotene, both of which prevent skin damage caused by sunlight. For this reason, watermelon consumption is more important in summer.
