Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron

Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron will discuss Iran's nuclear deal and other issues at Fort de Brégançon on August 19.

Iran Press/Europe: According to Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov, Putin and Macron will also discuss the situation around Iran and its nuclear program.

"Let me note that Russia and France share the common tasks of preserving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and preventing an escalation of tensions between Iran and the US in the Persian Gulf and in general," he said according to TASS.

Ways to ensure security in Europe and Russia’s cooperation with the European Union are on the agenda of two presidents meeting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron will discuss plans to hold a new four-party summit on Syria at the meeting.

The Kremlin aide stressed that Russia would like to hold the Astana process (Russia, Turkey, Iran) summit first. "We plan to hold this summit in the near future together with our partners. Practical work on the trilateral summit is in progress," he added.

On Aug 06, President Rouhani in a phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron said that a restoration of banking and oil industry cooperation is what Tehran expects as minimums under a major international nuclear agreement which has suffered as a result of US sanctions.

Rouhani stated that Iran was committed to efforts in Europe and elsewhere to resuscitate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a deal signed on Iran’s nuclear program in 2015 which began to unravel when the US pulled out of the agreement in May last year.

On Aug 03, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that as we stressed before if the JCPOA is not fully implemented by others, we will adhere to it in the same way, and of course, all of our actions have been done within the JCPOA.

On May 8, Iran notified its remaining partners in the 2015 nuclear deal that it would suspend the implementation of some of its commitments in reaction to the US’ unilateral withdrawal and Europe’s failure to live up to its commitments.

The first phase of the measure was kicked off on May 8 and the second phase started on July 7.
