Protests erupted once again outside the Georgian Parliament on Friday night following the European Union’s statement rejecting the results of the country’s recent parliamentary elections.

Iran Press/Europe:  Demonstrators, supported by opposition groups and backed by the EU and the United States, challenged the legitimacy of the October 26, 2024, election outcome.

The ruling party, Georgian Dream, which opposes Tbilisi's accession to the EU, secured a parliamentary majority and announced the presidential election date as December 14, 2024. The opposition and its supporters accused the government of electoral manipulation, alleging the results undermined democratic principles.

Friday’s protest, lasting well into the night, came amid accusations of EU interference in Georgia’s internal affairs. In a statement, the Georgian Prime Minister’s Office criticized the EU's stance, urging a non-political approach to the country's potential membership in the European bloc.

Georgian police were heavily deployed at the protest in Tbilisi, using water cannons to disperse the crowd and detaining several demonstrators. Tensions remain high as international observers continue to scrutinize the political developments in the nation.

The protests highlight the growing divide in Georgian society over its political direction and relations with the European Union.
