Iran Press/ Iran news: The 180-hectare airport of Saqqez, the largest construction project in Kurdistan province, after 27 years of waiting, was officially put into operation on Friday, November 3, 2023, with the presence of the Iranian president.
According to Iran press Saqqez is the second most populous city of Kurdistan province with a population of more than 226 thousand people, which is located 190 km north of Sanandaj, the capital of the province.
Saqqez airport, which had 63% physical progress before the 13th government, was put into operation on Friday, with the visit of the president and the government delegation.
Almost 27 years have passed since the beginning of studies for the construction of the Saqqez Martyrs Airport project; So that the studies for the construction of this airport began in 1996 and continued until 2005, and from 2005 to 2014, about 70 billion Rials were spent on it, but in the end the project reached a point where the contractor and the project consultant withdrew and the implementation of the project was stopped.
After several years of hiatus, in 2016, the construction project of Saqqez Martyrs Airport was handed over to Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company by concluding a memorandum of understanding, and this project reached 63% progress by the end of the 12th government.
This airport has been completed by Iranian engineers in an area of 180 hectares and a terminal area of 2,500 square meters.
Saqqez Airport is one of the biggest projects in Kurdistan province, which was put into operation in the presence of President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi and Mehrdad Bazrpash, Minister of Roads and Urban Development.
