Tehran (IP)- Iran's president thanked Russia's backing for Iran's membership in the BRICS group, calling it a playground for further bilateral interactions.

Iran PressIran news: "BRICS is one of the emerging organizations that is effective in shaping the multipolar world and a suitable field for the expansion of bilateral, regional, and international interactions between Iran, Russia, and other member countries," said Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in the phone call with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. 

Later, the presidents of Iran and Russia reviewed the latest status of regional developments.

The two sides emphasized dialogue between the two involved countries as the key to resolving the issues of the South Caucasus region.

The Iranian and Russian presidents pointed to the dialogues in the form of '3+3' and the avoidance of the interference of third parties in the issues related to the region.

Regarding the issues in the South Caucasus region, Iran's President, for his part, emphasized the territorial integrity and the national sovereignty of the countries, calling any geopolitical change "intolerable".

During the phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called Iran-Russia relations "favorable".

Iranian President put an emphasis on the acceleration of the implementation of bilateral agreements and joint projects, including transit, transportation, and exchange.

The energy and implementation of the North-South Corridor were among the key terms of discussion between the two presidents. 

On the volume of trade, Putin said that the volume of trade between the two countries during the last year was one of a kind.

Russia's Putin expressed hope for the implementation of the Rasht-Astara railway and connecting the railways of Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia to each other.

The implementation of the so-called railway would result in an increase in trade exchanges between these countries, according to Putin.
