Iran Press/ America: Alireza Miryusefi, the spokesman for the Iranian delegation to the United Nations, in an interview with Newsweek, said: "These ridiculous allegations are nothing new and only reinforce the fact that the Trump administration is desperately pursuing a failed policy of Iranophobia."
The US Secretary of State on Monday claimed that Iran had links to al-Qaeda and even went so far as to claim that Iran was involved in the 9/11 attacks.
Iran's delegation spokesman to the United Nations said that the United States and its allies are responsible for the conditions allowing terrorist groups to develop in the region.
"It is a well-known fact that Iran is the enemy of extremist terrorist groups while the founder of al-Qaeda and many of its supporters are America's closest ally in West Asia," Miryusefi said.
"Needless to say, US officials have repeatedly acknowledged their role in creating extremist groups in the region, including al-Qaeda," the Iranian diplomat said in an interview.
The Al-Qaeda terrorist group was formed by Osama bin Laden, a Saudi citizen, in the 1980s. The terrorist group was formed with the support of the US Central Intelligence Agency to confront the former Soviet Union. 219
