Iran Press/America: New polls by the PRRI shows the percentage of Americans who believe it is acceptable for a small business owner to refuse service to other religious minorities, in particular Jews, Muslims or African Americans, has grown over the past five years.
Those interviewed were questioned about a number of different sexual, religious and ethnic groups. Jews, Muslims, African-Americans, those in the LGBT community and transgender people all saw a rise in the percentages of those who find it acceptable to refuse them service based on religious grounds.

According to Iran Press report, the poll finds that “while at least two thirds of Americans oppose allowing small business owners to refuse products or services to minority groups based on their religious beliefs, a small but increasing proportion of Americans think it should be permissible to turn away customers based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or race.”
Overall, more than one in five (22%) Americans say small businesses should be able to refuse to serve Muslims on religious grounds. Men are more likely than women to agree (25% vs. 20%). Around three in ten white evangelical Protestants (32%) and white mainline Protestants (28%) say small businesses should be allowed to refuse to serve Muslims for religious reasons, compared to around one in five nonwhite Protestants (21%), Catholics (19%), and the religiously unaffiliated (17%) who say the same.
Republicans are more than twice as likely as Democrats to support religiously based refusals to serve gay or lesbian people (47% vs. 18%), transgender people (44% vs. 19%), atheists (37% vs. 17%), and Muslims (32% vs. 14%).
In a separate look, Republicans and conservatives who took part in the poll think business owners should be free to refuse service to gay people if their refusal is based on religious belief. But apparently, large numbers of them also think it’s fine to refuse service to Muslims, Jews, and African Americans.
However, amongst the Democrats, there is also a disturbingly large number who also think this kind of discrimination is OK. In those who were Democrat, around 14-19 percent of the total thinks it’s OK to discriminate against anyone. But among Republicans, it varies.
About 18 percent think it’s OK to discriminate against blacks compared to 47 percent who think it’s OK to discriminate against gay people. Jews and Muslims and atheists are in the middle.
The surge happens as Trump and his fans favor Muslim travel ban and try to blame Muslims in every terrorist attack in the US, but in fact, all terrorism-related deaths in 2018 came at the hands of right-wing extremists and white supremacists; people who the president of the US described them as “very fine” in Charlottesville events.
The survey was conducted throughout the United States, with over 1,000 people questioned. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 3.5 percentage points. 101/212
