Vienna (IP) - The selective and political approach to humanitarian cooperation, including the fight against drug smuggling is unacceptable Secretary-General of Drug Control Headquarters said.

Iran Press/Europe: Stressing the need for a development-oriented approach to UN programs, Eskandar Momeni at the Sixty-third Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, said, "The success of the anti-narcotics smuggling program requires the participation of the international community on the principle of shared responsibility and the principles of the United Nations in the field of development."

Noting that Iran has the least international support in the fight against drugs, Momeni added, "About 30 Iranian soldiers have been martyred and injured in the past year in the fight against drug trafficking."

Pointing to the conducting of more than 2300 operations and armed clashes against drug lords, smugglers, and international drug supply and transit networks in 2019 the official highlighted that in these operations Iran has discovered about one thousand ton of drugs from 1886 local, regional, and international groups, that are unprecedented in the history of the world.

Momeni added, "This success is not due to the financial, technical, equipment  support of countries and international communities, but because of Islamic and human teachings and because of Iran's adherence to international commitments."

The UN Drugs Commission meeting started in Vienna as of today and will last for three days. On the sideline of this summit, an exhibition of Iran's achievements in various aspects of fighting against drug trafficking has been inaugurated, based on Iran's experience for "40 Years of fighting against drug smuggling ".  101/219
