Following an attack by a former U.S. military member on civilians in New Orleans, which resulted in the death of 15 people and the injury of dozens more, both the British Counter-Terrorism Police and the MI5 domestic intelligence agency have been placed on high alert.

Iran Press/Europe: According to Iran Press News Agency from London, reports from the UK indicate that Chris Phillips, the former head of the UK's National Counter-Terrorism Security Office, expressed concerns that similar attacks could occur in Britain following the incident in New Orleans. The reports highlight that there are hundreds of locations and gatherings in the UK that could potentially be targeted by similar attacks. As a result, the Counter-Terrorism Police and MI5 are on heightened standby.

The former U.S. military member responsible for the attack has been identified as Shamsuddin Jabar, who had converted to Islam. On New Year’s Day, Jabar used a van to bypass temporary barriers and entered a crowded area in New Orleans, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more. However, police and Western media have not yet disclosed his full name.

The Daily Mirror, a London-based newspaper, reported that both the police and MI5 are concerned about the possibility of similar terrorist operations occurring in the UK. A spokesperson for the UK Counter-Terrorism Police stated on Thursday night that they continuously assess the country’s security situation to be aware of potential crises. The spokesperson further added that the UK remains a target for terrorists, with 3,000 potential extremists currently under surveillance.

The current threat level in the UK is deemed "significant," meaning a terrorist attack is considered "possible." Consequently, armed police patrols are being conducted around key centers of importance.

In response to several terrorist attacks in London and Manchester in recent years, which led to the deaths and injuries of dozens of people, the UK government has installed large steel and concrete barriers, as well as metal columns, around important government buildings, ministries, shopping centers, and other high-traffic locations. These measures aim to prevent vehicles from running over pedestrians.
