New York (IP) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has underscored the deep-rooted historical and kinship ties between Iran and Tajikistan, expressing Tehran's strong interest in expanding cooperation across scientific, cultural, economic, and security sectors with Dushanbe.

Iran PressAmerica: Pezeshkian’s remarks came during a meeting with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York.

A key focus of their discussions was Afghanistan, a shared concern for both countries. Pezeshkian stressed the importance of collaboration between Tehran and Dushanbe to help Afghanistan navigate its ongoing challenges.

In response, President Rahmon praised Iran’s leadership in promoting unity among Islamic nations, acknowledging the progress Tehran has made despite enduring significant international sanctions and pressure. Rahmon emphasized Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran, noting his country's readiness to pursue practical measures to deepen cooperation in all fields.

This meeting signaled a mutual desire for stronger bilateral relations as both nations look to solidify their partnership on regional and international fronts.
