Iran Press/ Europe: The supply of Ukrainian grain to global markets cannot alleviate the problem of hunger, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with leaders and representatives of African nations on Saturday.
The spokesperson of the Russian president, Dmytro Peskov said: “Here it is hardly possible to predict any final decision, we can only state that judging de facto from what we have, this agreement has no chance."
According to Peskov, the agreement implies a “deed” on the part of the contracting states: “And part of this matter was done, but the second part, which concerned the Russian Federation, was not done.”
He also stated that the Russian Federation allegedly “several times made concessions” and continued the agreement.
“Therefore, if we state what we have now, then, of course, there are no prospects, there is no reason for its continuation. Because so far, what was promised to us has not been done,” he added.
The agreement, known as the Black Sea Grain Initiative, was concluded between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by the UN and Turkey, in July 2022 in Istanbul. Then it was extended several times. In March 2023, the Russian Federation informed the participants of the agreement to extend the agreement for only 60 days instead of 120. The term of these agreements expired on May 18. 219
