Iran Press/ Commentary: The announcement of the new position of the President of Ukraine on the eve of the seventh month of the war in Ukraine does not leave a positive perspective in terms of ending the first classical war between two countries in the European continent after World War II. Apparently, the pro-Western government of Kiev, which in recent months has devoted all its efforts to preventing Russia's advances, considering the failure to retake the eastern and southern regions of this country despite the huge military and weapons aid from the West, has seen no solution to maintain its image other than emphasizing the non-acceptance of the ceasefire.
On the other hand, Russia, which initially announced the purpose of its special military operations in Ukraine to prevent the hostile actions of the Kiev government against Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, now wants the Western-oriented government of Ukraine to step down with the continuation of this war. Meanwhile, Moscow has now consolidated its possessions, especially in the southern part of Ukraine.
Russian officials are now talking about the prolongation of the war in Ukraine. Gennady Gatilov, the representative of Russia in international organizations, based in Geneva, says: "We do not imagine the possibility of a diplomatic solution regarding Ukraine and we foresee a long-term conflict."
The war in Ukraine can be seen as the result of the West's bad intentions and aggressive behavior towards Russia. The fact is that Russia's attack on Ukraine was actually Moscow's reaction to the aggressive actions of the West by encouraging Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and creating serious risks against Russia's national security. This action of Russia took place after the negative responses of the United States and NATO to Russia's reasonable requests to renounce Ukraine's membership in NATO and the withdrawal of NATO forces to the borders in 1997, that is, before the start of the membership process of Eastern and Central European countries in NATO.
On the other hand, the United States and its other European and non-European partners, such as Canada, Australia, and even Japan, see the war in Ukraine as a unique opportunity for the so-called rebuke with Russia and Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, which for more than two decades has stood against the extravagances of the US and NATO in Europe, West Asia, Latin America and even the Arctic.
In addition, from the point of view of Western leaders, Russia's victory in the Ukraine war in the vicinity of NATO will mean the discredit of this military organization and the further expansion of Russia's regional and international influence and power and will change the security, military and political equations in Europe into the detriment of the West. Therefore, they are determined to prevent Russia's victory at any cost.

This issue has been repeatedly raised by senior European and American officials. Marie Dumoulin, Director of the Wider Europe program at the European Council on Foreign Relations, believes that the strong support of Western allies for Ukraine has made it more difficult for either side to withdraw now.
"Each side thinks they can still have the military advantage, so this war is unlikely to end anytime soon," Dumoulin says.
At the same time, the United States is seeking the continuation of the war in Ukraine with the aim of weakening the Russian army as much as possible and making the extensive and unprecedented sanctions against Russia more effective. Washington has already provided more than $10 billion in arms aid to Ukraine, and a US official said on Tuesday that Washington is expected to announce a new $3 billion security aid package to Ukraine on Wednesday.
In addition, the United States, in addition to the various weapons that it has officially announced to deliver to Ukraine, has secretly provided new offensive weapons to Ukraine, which is certainly aimed at expanding the scope of the war into Russian territory and intensifying the confrontation between Moscow and Kyiv. Thus, at least at the current time, there is no prospect of ending the war in Ukraine.
