Tabriz (IP) - September 18, the anniversary of the death of Ostad Shahriar, a contemporary Iranian poet, has been named the National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature in the Iranian calendar.

Iran PressIran news: Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Bahjat Tabrizi, known as Shahryar, was born in Tabriz in 1906 and died on September 18, 1988.

Shahriar has poems written in Farsi and Azeri. As for some of his masterpieces, we can refer to the poems "Ali Ey Homai Rahmat," which was written in praise of the first Imam of Shiites, Imam Ali (PBUH), in Persian, and "Haydar Babaya Salam" in Azeri.

Haydar Babaya Salam collection is considered one of the masterpieces of Azeri literature.

Mirhossein Zenozi, calligrapher and literature expert, one of the students of Shahriar, said in an interview with Iran Press in Tabriz: "Shahriar connected Iranian literature with the past of this land and brought Saadi and Hafez to life in the contemporary era."

He added that the great poet created a new area in today's literature, which the literature figures know well while emphasizing his high status in contemporary poetry.

Zenozi emphasized that young people know Professor Shahriar very well because he was the narrator of the young generation's heart, especially because he spoke about his love and the society of his time, which is the language of the youth.

Also, Hossein Turkoglu, a poet from Turkey, said in an interview with Iran Press that Shahriar is a well-known figure in the world, such that his works are taught in secondary schools and high schools in Turkey.

Shahriar created a specific model and ideology in contemporary poetry, creating a new era in Iranian poetry, and many figures and students are benefiting from his soul in poetry.

Shahrat Saqqa, a poet from the Republic of Azerbaijan, also said that the people of Azerbaijan have a great interest in Shahriar because of his simplicity in life and folk poems.

He said that Professor Shahriar has appeared in his poems as a friend of God who is more than a poet and loves his people.

On the commemoration day of Professor Shahriar in Tabriz, his museum hosts his fans and tourists.

The tomb of Shahryar is located along with 400 other famous poets in the Tomb of the Poets of Tabriz, considered one of the most important sightseeing and tourist places in Tabriz.
