Iran Press/ Middle East: Thousands of Palestinians are held in Israeli jails. Human rights organizations say Israel violates all the rights and freedoms granted to prisoners by the Geneva Convention. They say administrative detention violates the right to due process since the evidence is withheld from prisoners while they are held for lengthy periods without being charged, tried, or convicted.
In an interview with IranPress in Gaza, Abdullah Qandil said that Palestinian prisoners in the prisons of the Israel regime have been subjected to violent and systematic actions since a few months ago.
The Palestinian official emphasized: "The transfer of Palestinian prisoners is cruel, their rights are violated, they are not given medical services, and they are tortured."
The director of the Waed Palestinian Association for the Affairs of Prisoners and Freedmen said: "The Zionist prisons organization does not accept Palestinian prisoners' demands. Therefore, the National Movement of Palestinian Prisoners decided to start a two-week strike."
Qandil said: "In this framework, the meals given to the Palestinian prisoners are supposed to be rejected. Also, the prisoners should avoid attending the daily frisk that takes place four times a day."
The director of the Waed Palestinian Association said: "The protests will last for two weeks, and if the Israeli regime continues its actions, then a hunger strike will begin, in which about 1,500 prisoners will participate."
