The chairman of Iraq's Border Ports Commission confirmed Saturday that more than three million pilgrims have entered the country through the border crossings to mark Arbaeen, the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam.

Iran PressMiddle East: In a press conference in Najaf province Omar, Al-Waeli said, "In addition to this number, a large number of foreign Muslim pilgrims have also entered Iraq through the border crossings of the Kurdistan region."

"All of the foreign pilgrims were subject to regular legal procedures," he said.

The Governor of Najaf Majid Al-Waeli announced on Friday the city had received between 750,000 to one million pilgrims per day over the past 15 days.
