Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance said the country's cultural trend is progressing and that in the current Iranian year (starting from late March 2023), more than 108,000 books were written and translated, some of which were published for the first time and some were reprinted.

Iran PressIran News: Speaking at the ceremony for giving the 40th Book of the Year Award of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad-Mahdi Esmaili stated that a major part of book sales is dedicated to children's and adolescent works, adding: "An independent festival for children's and adolescent books has been considered. For this purpose, investigations and plannings have been launched in the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance."

The ceremony was held at the cinema hall of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

In this ceremony, Mohammad-Mahdi Esmaili, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Yaser Ahmadvand, Deputy Culture Minister for Cultural Affairs, Ali Ramezani, CEO of Iran Book and Literature House, some other officials as well as experts and cultural activists were present.

Esmaili declared that the issuance of permits for books is done as quickly as possible, adding: "Expert discussions may be needed on less than two percent of the books again which will be finally examined. This back and forth should be done with minimum delay, maximum accuracy and respect to the creator of the work. Even a writer should not be disappointed by this process."

Regarding the continuation of holding the Book of the Year Award ceremony, he said: "It is based on the supervision and support of works that can solve issues related to their field.The activity of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance is based on creativity."

Esmaili stated that about one million and 400 books were sold in the exhibition in the virtual section, stressing: "This process created cultural justice, and the participants from all cities were able to use these facilities equally."

About the reading per capita in Iran, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance announced:" The latest survey shows that the reading per capita for every Iranian is 33 minutes, without considering specific types of book, including prayer, educational, and guide ones.

Esmaili said: "The major part of book sales in the book fair goes to books for children and teenagers. Officials in the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance should unveil a complete package for this purpose."
