Iran Press/ Iran news: Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson of Iran's Election Headquarters, said on Thursday after the registration period for the candidates for the Islamic Council of Parliament representatives that 88% of the candidates are men and 12% are women.
Giving more details on the candidates, Eslami also talked about the age range of the registrants: 28% of the candidates were between 30 and 40 years old, 37% were between 40 and 50 years old, 26% were between 50 and 60 years old, and 9% of the candidates were between 60 and 75 years old.
According to the spokesperson of Iran's Election Headquarters, Alborz, Tehran, Qom, Khorasan-Razavi, Chaharmahal, and Bakhtiari, Yazd, Isfahan, Qazvin, Fars, and Golestan provinces respectively had the most registrations per seat.
Iranian Parlament elections are scheduled to take place in Iran on 1 March 2024, four years after the previous election in 2020.
The elected candidates will serve a four-year term. The previous legislative elections in 2020 resulted in a significant majority for conservatives, with reformists only gaining 20 seats in parliament. The official turnout for the election was recorded at 42.57%.
