Tehran (IP)- Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the construction of the International North-South Transport Corridor has a practical and tangible contribution to ensuring global food security.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking via video conference at the "signing of the agreement for the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway" ceremony, the Russian President said: "It is very important to connect the ports of Russia with the ports of Iran and the Indian Ocean. This idea backs up twenty years ago and is being implemented today."

He added: "This project gives us the opportunity to have uninterrupted transportation on this route from north to south.

While appreciating President Raisi and the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei, the Russian President added: "We must diversify the transportation routes. Sending goods from this corridor gives us competitive advantages. Using this route, it takes ten days for the goods to reach us, but traditional routes take 30 to 45 days."

We can use the new route to send food and agricultural products to the consumers in Iran and in the countries of the Persian Gulf and Africa," Putin said, adding, "With this corridor, the jobs created will improve and the attractiveness of investment in the provinces of Iran and Russia will increase, and this is just the beginning and the goal is to increase the capacity of the north-south route."
