The leader of North Korea asked his armed forces to prepare for war with the US as he blamed Washington for the current tension on the Korean peninsula, state-run media said Thursday.

During the second day of the 9th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) on Wednesday, Kim Jong-un said the US is engaged in an "unprecedented" confrontation against North Korea.

On Thursday, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol visited a frontline military unit in the eastern county of Yeoncheon to inspect its defense posture and called for immediate retaliation if there was any provocation from North Korea.

North Korea has been expanding ties with Russia, China, as Washington accuses Pyongyang of supplying military equipment to Moscow for use in Ukraine, while Russia provides technical support to help the North advance its military capabilities. 219
