Shanghai (IP) - Since its inception in Shanghai, China, in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has evolved from a regional organization with six members to a transregional entity with 10 full members, two observer countries, and 14 dialogue partners.

Iran Press/Asia: At a ceremony attended by representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries, Zhang Ming was honored for his services as Secretary-General, and Nurlan Yermekbayev from Kazakhstan was introduced as the new Secretary-General of the organization.

In his remarks, Zhang Ming noted, "China, as one of the founding members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has made significant contributions to the development of this organization over the past twenty years."

The new Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization also said, "The member countries of this organization have significant capacities for cooperation that should be utilized appropriately."

This year, China holds the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and will host over a hundred programs with the participation of member and observer countries.
