Abuja (IP) - Hundreds of followers and supporters of Ahlulbayt in Abuja, Nigeria, celebrated the Eid al-Ghadir occasion on Tuesday night.

Iran PressAfrica: The occasion is a day that the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) declared his cousin, Ali bin Abi Talib as his successor and the leader of the Islamic ummah.

After opening prayers and recitation of the Holy Qur'an, ziarat (honoring) of Ahlulbayt (AS), a short drama was also performed which depicted how the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) appointed Imam Ali (AS) as his successor in front of thousands of companions.

Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky was the special guest at the event and delivered a speech about the importance of the Eid al-Ghadir occasion and the events that occurred during and after the most famous sermon of the Prophet, popularly known as Hadith ul-Ghadir.

Sheikh Zakzaky noted that the appointment of Imam Ali as ordered by Allah the Almighty means the holy Prophet had completed his mission on earth.
