Iran Press/ Asia: Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks on Wednesday in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad, saying that Muslims are members of one family and must feel responsible for one another.
"Muslim countries cooperating with each other to counter major world powers’ pressures is imperative,” added the President, according to the official website of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"Many problems of Muslims are because of US interference like their sanctions against Iran,” Rouhani said.
President Hassan Rouhani, who is in Malaysia to attend the Kuala Lumpur 2019 Summit, also referred to the United States’ unilateral sanctions against Iran, saying: "The US sanctions against Iran have been implemented while UN Resolution 2231 is in place, and they have withdrawn from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) without any reason.”
Stating that the US has been unsuccessful in its sanctions against the Iranian nation, he said: "Within the past 5 months, we have been able to improve our economic conditions despite US’ maximum pressure.”
He went on to stress that relations with Malaysia are very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying: "The two countries should develop their scientific and technological cooperation.”
“Fields such as energy, industry, tourism, and information technology, as well as maritime cooperation can be very good potentials for the development of relations and cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
Rouhani added that sanctions cannot undermine the resolve to deepen ties, saying: "Tehran and Kuala Lumpur can cooperate in the medical fields in which both have a lot of experience.”
“Jask Free Zone in southern Iran is ready for joint venture and cooperation,” said the President.
Expressing hope that the Kuala Lumpur Summit would play the role of resolving the issues of Islamic countries, he said: "Such summits can be effective in resolving the issues of Muslims, especially in the Middle East.”
At the same meeting, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad of Malaysia also stressed the development of relations between the two countries in all fields, saying: "Iranians are supported by us and we are serious in deepening ties.”
“We have always been under the pressures of major world powers,” he said, adding: "We condemn the illegal sanctions against Iran, which are against the UN regulations”.
Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad also said that Iran will continue its path despite US and Europe pressures, adding: "Iran has good experience in managing foreign pressure, which we need to learn.”
“We will continue our economic and commercial relations with Iran,” he said, adding: "The motto of Malaysia is Islamic unity and power to increase steadfastness against the enemies.”
President Rouhani also met with Malaysian King Sultan Abdullah on Wednesday and praised the Malaysian Prime Minister's timely action to hold the Kuala Lumpur conference to address the most important issues of the Muslim world.
