Middle East: According to the Al-Nashra website; Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Thursday that the country is currently facing its worst financial and economic crisis, adding that what has happened in recent weeks on the streets of Tripoli, Beirut and Ayn al-Romana should be a warning to individuals and groups. who seek to spread chaos and violence.
Michel Aoun also called on everyone to unite to face the crucial challenges in Lebanon and regional tensions.
Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab also said that everyone should take part in rescuing Lebanon and that this partnership should become the beginning of a national work that will result in the formation of a committee to follow up on relations with the political forces and the people's demands.
The unprecedented devaluation of the Lebanese national currency against the dollar, unemployment, and declining Lebanese international financial credit have prompted sections of the Lebanese population to once again take to the streets after months to protest against economic and government inflation and corruption.
Earlier on Thursday President Michel Aoun chaired “National Meeting”, at Baabda Palace, attended by Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, in addition to leaders, party chiefs and heads of parliamentary blocs.
The meeting was devoted to discussing the general situation in the country, in light of recent security developments that recently took place in Beirut and Tripoli, which threatened national unity, public safety, and civil peace.
It was scheduled that the meeting would tackle numerous presented topics to determine the viewpoints of participants.
Lebanon has long had a power-sharing political system between the different religious denominations.
The number of seats in parliament is split between Christians and Muslims, and the president, prime minister, and speaker of the parliament must each come from a specific religious background.
