Tehran (IP) - The specialized meeting on the role of women in multilateralism was held on Jan 24, 2023.

Iran PressIran news: The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Ensieh Khazali, Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Ali Zolfigol, and the newly appointed Secretary General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO Ali-Akbar Motakan attended the event.

UNESCO's General Conference adopted a Resolution declaring January 25th as the International Day of Women in Multilateralism. The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the role of women in forming international policy and to encourage the representation of women in the international arena.

The specialized conference held in Tehran was also aimed at supporting the increase of women's presence in important decision-making positions, empowering and nurturing a new generation of women as future leaders, and promoting human rights, peace, and sustainable development in the structure of multilateralism. Explaining the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the issues related to women and multilateralism in various fields is among the other goals of the conference.

The conference was held in cooperation with the office of the Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Research Center of the Parliament, the Institute for the Protection of Women's Rights, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions.
