In an interview with the French magazine, Le Journal du Dimanche, Emmanuel Macron even claimed the recent bombing of Damascus, Syria wasn't really an intervention.
Asked what about last month’s airstrikes on Syria, Macron said: "Well they don’t count – as they weren’t about intervention, but respect. If France wants to be respected in the region, we have to talk to everyone but also be able to act when red lines are crossed. This is an essential element of credibility, because if the Americans had done nothing, we would have resigned ourselves to being helpless."
Last month, on 14 April, over 100 missiles were launched at Syrian government targets by US, France and Britain, killing and injuring innocent Syrians.
After the missile strikes on 14 April, Macron even boasted that it was him who persuaded US president, Donald Trump, to take action against Damascus. He added that the allies’ involvement in Syria should remain “long-term,” though was later forced to qualify his words, saying that the fight against terrorism would determine the length of stay for the French and US forces currently in Syria.
