Iran Press/ Middle East: August 21 has been named as World Mosque Day after Zionists started a fire in the Al Aqsa Mosque in August 1969.
Al Aqsa Mosque was the Muslim's first Qibla (or direction of prayer) and it is one the most sacred places considered by Abrahamic religions, Iran Press reported.
The arson attack was one of several assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque which caused widespread damage to the sacred site.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in a resolution in 2016 denied any Jewish identity for all the sacred places in al- Quds including Al Aqsa Mosque and recognized their Muslim identity.
Israel occupied al- Quds in 1967.
