Lebanese Army on Saturday asked demonstrators to stay peaceful and comply with security forces as mass anti-government protest entered its third day.

Iran Press/Middle East: Lebanese Army Command, in a statement on Saturday, urged "all citizens who are demanding rights related to livelihood and dignity to express these calls peacefully and avoid assaulting public and private properties.”

“As the Army Command stresses its full solidarity with the rightful demands, it calls on protesters to comply with security forces in a bid to facilitate the citizens’ movements and affairs,” the statement added according to Al-Manar TV.

Protests erupted on Thursday against proposed new taxes and have since spread to other parts of the country, posing a serious challenge to the coalition government headed by Prime Minister Saad Hariri amid a growing economic crisis.

In a televised speech earlier on Saturday, Lebanon's Hezbollah leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said the current financial crisis in the country is the result of dozens of years, everybody is held responsible.

"What happened throughout these couple of days confirms that solving problems through taxes will lead to crises," he noted.
