Tehran (IP) - The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei received the second dose of the Iranian COVID-19 vaccine before noon on Friday, July 23, 2021.

Iran Press/Iran news: Ayatollah Khamenei, on Friday, 25 June received the first dose of the Covo-Iran vaccine.

However, the Leader had set two prior conditions:

Ayatollah Khamenei insisted not to receive the vaccine outside of the schedule that had been devised for the rest of the Iranians in the first place.

Secondly, Ayatollah Khamenei had required to receive only the Iranian vaccines.

For this reason, when the first phase of the vaccination of Iranians aged 80 and above started, he did not receive the foreign vaccine and waited for the Iranian one.

Iran's first domestically developed vaccine, COV-Iran Barakat, is to be used in a mass immunization program following the third successful clinical trial.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, after India, China, Britain, the United States, and Russia, is the sixth country in the world and the first country in the West Asian region to be capable of developing the COVID-19 vaccine.

Developed by researchers at the Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam, the COV-Iran Barakat vaccine was unveiled on December 29, 2020, and started to be produced in mass on March 29.

Iranian scientists and experts have succeeded in developing several vaccines against the coronavirus, despite the cruel sanctions imposed by the US.
