Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, said on Friday that Iran’s stance on the JCPOA is sensible and responsible.

Talking to reporters after the Vienna meeting on Friday, Lavrov said that Iran announced during the session that despite America's unilateral exit from the deal, it does not intend to abandon the deal.

Speaking to reporters and journalists , Lavrov said:  "Iran confirmed its commitment to its obligations under the JCPOA,  reassuring all the other participants at the meeting. This means Iran will continue cooperating with the IAEA, though the Iranian minister noted that after the US unilateral step, Tehran has the reason and the right to… exit the deal, but they will not apply it… I think this is a responsible stance, and I hope they will maintain this stance."

Lavrov also said that Russia, China, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom had once again decried the US decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, in strongest possible terms, and described it as an unjustified and politicized decision.

The Russian foreign minister also noted that Iran had fulfilled all of its obligations under the JCPOA and that the agreement had been working efficiently since it was signed in 2015.
