Khoy (IP) - The first phase of the largest uranium mine in the northwest of the country was put into operation with the presence of the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) in Khoy City of West Azerbaijan province.

Iran PressIran news: The Mehdi Bakeri Industrial Complex Mining site in Khoy is situated in Safaiye. It has yielded valuable materials like uranium, molybdenum, and rare elements that are crucial for strategic industries, including the needs of the country's Atomic Energy Organization.

For the exploitation of the project, more than six thousand billion tomans have been invested, of which 5 thousand billion tomans are allocated for the exploration and exploitation of the mine, and another one thousand billion tomans are dedicated to the construction of the processing plant.

The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, stated that the operation of this mine is part of the AEOI's efforts to enhance their capacity for nuclear power generation and the use of radiation. The opening of the unit aligns with the comprehensive strategic document of the nuclear industry, which is one of the main programs of the organization.

Eslami stated that they have broadened their efforts in mineral exploration and are pleased to announce the commencement of the initial stage of their program to provide necessary minerals.
